Shin Ramyun

This is the #1 selling Korean instant noodle worldwide. The most recognizable in brand and taste, Shin Ramyun is a simple formula of a beef-flavour based broth that’s kicked up a notch with Korean spice.

Shin ramyun gets its name for the Chinese character that means Spicy.

Shin Ramyun literally translates to Spicy Instant Noodles.

Keep It Simple, Silly.

The ones we buy at our local Korean grocery store here in Canada are manufactured in the United States. We were able to taste test with one manufactured in Korea and there are definite differences (it’s hotter and the noodles chewier). We made a video about it!

Shin ramyun being the superstar that it is, has many varieties within its family of products to choose from. There is the classic Shin ramyun with its red and black packaging.

There is a “premium” (so lol) one called Shin Ramyun Black which has a superior broth (we don’t think it’s worth the premium price but we’ll do a review of it later).

There is a “healthier” version Shin Ramyun with air-dried noodles (rather than deep-fried).

And if offers convenience packaging choices in cups so it’s easy-peasy to take on car trips, camping trips, airplane trips and what not.

All you need is hot water. And chopsticks. Or a fork.

Package Instructions: How to cook Shin Ramyun:

  1. Bring 550 ml of water to boil.

  2. Add contents of package.

  3. Cook for 4 1/2 mins.

  4. Enjoy!

The winning combination of a familiar broth (beef based broth is pretty basic world over) with spiciness makes it easily pleasing even to first-timers.

You know what else makes it a fan-favourite? It’s fool-proof when it comes to customization. Too spicy? Add a splash of milk. Or cheese. Or egg. Want protein? Open up a can of tuna, or add meat or seafood. Wanna garnish? Julienne slice some green onions like a chef. Go classic with a slice of Spam.

You just can’t mess it up.

Korean singer/celebrity Kim GunMo ups this cheap and cheerful ramyun with gourmet premium ingredients like wild-caught squid, wild abalone, wild mushrooms and King crab. LOL, his mom’s face (The Korean show 미운 우리 새끼 is about parents of single celebrities watching how they live on their own).

This is akin to adding truffle oil, French butter and the most expensive Gruyere on your Kraft mac and cheese.

It’s fast, easy and cheap- not to mention tasty. So it’s not hard to see why this is a best-selling instant noodle. Survivalists should stock up on this for their bunker pantries 🤣.
